We provide on-site surveys year-round to determine the level of risk your home or small business faces and recommend damage prevention solutions to help you safeguard your family and property.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our goal is to ensure Floridians are fully aware of their individual hurricane risk and are knowledgably able to take the essential and proper precautions against the dangers of tropical storms and hurricanes. It is our commitment to offer home and small business owners accurate information and dependable service to stay safe and reduce hardship and loss.

Who We Are

Chris Cappella, founder, president, and chief meteorologist of Safety First Hurricane Planning, Inc., is a graduate of Penn State University’s prestigious meteorology program. His 30 years of special interest training in severe weather focuses on hurricane research, preparedness, and planning. He has written extensively on many aspects of severe storms for USA TODAY, Weatherwise magazine, and AAA. He has been trained and earned the distinction of Certified Wind Mitigation Inspector through the My Safe Florida Home program. He is an active member of the American Meteorological Society and Chi Epsilon Pi – meteorology’s highest honor society; the Association for the Advancement of Science; the American Association of Wind Engineers; the National Weather Association; Florida Emergency Preparedness Association; an associate member of the Institute for Building and Home Safety; and an affiliate member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Melissa Flint, vice president of Safety First Hurricane Planning, Inc., is a certified information systems consultant who extends her talents to the business as chief financial officer, associate report editor, and corporate liaison.
